Hoodoo & Art: Conjuring Spirits through the Art of Portraiture

This is a 90-minute foundational through intermediate level workshop, in The Library (lower level)

Hoodoo has a history of magical portraiture, creating artwork of a spirit – such as ancestors, saint, or specific spiritual entities. They serve as a tangible vessel, conduit, or anchor for that spirit’s energy. Blending practices of visual representation with ritual action, allowing the practitioner to communicate with honor, or command. Art and magic go hand in hand.

This class will cover the art of creating meaningful artwork for your altar, space, and other workings. The students will have hands-on experience creating their own tarot card or other magical working.

Emily Gonzales has created her own tarot deck that illustrates all portraiture work of those who walked this Earth before us. Each card serves as a vessel to spirits behind the work.
