About the event

2024 marks the 600th anniversary of the first civil law against witchcraft in Europe. That law was written in the enigmatic location of the Pyrenees, a mountain range which is still today filled with legends and folklore related to the primordial witch. This lecture will explore the Basics of Pyrenean witchcraft through the seminal concepts of the bruxa (the 'witch'), the Land, and the Sabbat.

About the Presenter:

Júlia Carreras Tort is a researcher, practitioner, and teacher of Pyrenean Metzineria ('Poison Making') and Bruixeria ('Witchcraft/Hedgeriding') who graduated in English studies and linguistics with the University of Barcelona. She is the co-founder and co-owner of Occvlta together with her partner Hector, an endeavor focused on crafting high-quality herbal products and artifacts since 2013, as well as on contributing to the divulgation of witchcraft and occult herbalism among the general public through courses and collaborations with museums. She currently resides in the Pyrenees of Spain.
