Drawing on ancient sources, from Greek myth and oral literature to the Greek Magical Papyri – this class will focus on the practice of appealing to gods and forces which oppose order and law in order to resist and escape from injustice and oppression. Looking at works that appeal to such divinities as Kronos, Set, Typhon, Demeter and Hera amongst others and such traditions as human immortalization as captured in both the Eleusinian Mysteries and the Greek Magical Papyri this class will offer concrete ritual practice and advice for appealing to forces of chaos and destruction to counter the fascist tendency towards control, order, and domination which we face in our contemporary world.
