Passports for the Newly Deceased: A Group Totenpass Ritual Workshop

This is a 120-minute intermediate through experienced level lecture & ritual/meditation, in The Pickman Room (second floor)

οὐδεὶς ἀθάνατος. "Take courage…no one is immortal.” In this session, we will design and consecrate our own Totenpässe, also known as passports for the afterlife, for the newly deceased.

The session will begin with a discussion of Totenpässe, with a particular emphasis on the best-known examples: the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the Orphic Gold Tablets of Ancient Greece. Across cultural iterations, these objects served as instructions for navigating the underworld, including directions on what to avoid and what to embrace in chthonic terrain, information on key figures, and scripts for how to approach related deities.

For our ritual, we will use the Orphic Gold Tablet as our foundation. We’ll begin with charging our materia, proceed with an invocation, and craft our tablets utilizing a blend of ancient frameworks and modern praxis.…
