Baphomet is the deity the heretical Knights Templars were accused of worshipping during the Inquisition Trials. Baphomet was later conflated with the Sabbatical Goat of Witchcraft by Eliphas Levi who gave us the iconography of Baphomet that we know of today. In modern times, Baphomet has been associated with Satanic religions, movements, and organizations where it has popularly been misidentified with Satan in the public eye. In this lecture, Mat Auryn expands on the discussion of Baphomet from his book Psychic Witch to explore the history and occult significance of Baphomet and the Sabbatical Goat, comparing and contrasting it with similar concepts in other spiritual traditions, and dispelling misconceptions and myths surrounding this enigmatic figure which still holds extreme significance for the modern witch today.
