The role of the Ozark healer within their community often focuses on building up their patients and driving out illnesses and evil. But what about cursing as a form of healing? In this talk we’ll look at the role of retribution magic as a form of therapy whereby a curse is “returned to sender” and where the power of the enemy can be broken to facilitate personal healing and growth. This is considered a very controversial subject within traditional Ozark folk healing, but despite this, retribution magic is commonly practiced by healers and is surprisingly sometimes even endorsed by local clergy.
 
About the Presenter:
Brandon Weston is a spiritual healer, writer, and folklorist living in the Arkansas Ozarks. He is the author of Ozark Folk Magic, Ozark Mountain Spell Book, and Granny Thornapple’s Book of Charms. He is the owner of Ozark Healing Traditions, a collective of articles, lectures, and workshops focusing on traditions of medicine, magic, and folklore from the Ozark Mountain region. He comes from a long line of Ozark hillfolk and works hard to keep the traditions that he’s collected alive and true for generations to come.
